The Dutch in Wayne County, New York
    A number of Zeelanders immigrated to Wayne County, New York, in the late 1840s including Cornelis’ widow and children. Most settled in the town of Williamson, and some in the neighboring town of Sodus, both towns on the south shore of Lake Ontario.
On 25 May 1823 when Cornelis was 22, he married Johanna van Dixhoorn (62921) , daughter of Leendert van Dixhoorn (54961) (ca 1774-23 Dec 1843) & Martina Bowuwens (ca 1775-6 Feb 1837), in Axel, Zeeland.94 Born ca 1799 in Axel, Zeeland.

Janna van Dixhoorn, 48, laborer, widow of Cornelis Hamelink left Axel for North America in 1847 with four children.94 Her son Leendert and his wife are listed separately, so the four children that left with her were Josias and Dirk (who appeared in the 1850 census in Wayne County), and two of her three daughters Geertruit, Martina Louwerina, and Elizabeth.
