Since you are having trouble accessing the Josefsdorf material I have pasted the Schirado family block below at the end of this message.  This is what I have on the family at this point.  After reading the material in your attachment I realized that we should look in the Aurelheim family book for possible further data on these guys.  I find the following;

Hi Dave,

I'm enclosing a very "Draft" report I'm putting together on the Schirado family. It's somewhat repetitive and also has some notes included, but most of the information I have is all there. It's still a work in progress.

Mathias' Jr.'s death certificate states that his father was Mathias Schirado and his mother Rosalia Dekold. Thomas, his wife Eva and their youngest son Josef (who was born in North Dakota) go back to Klek to visit in 1910. The reason given on the ship's manifest is that his mother Rosalia, is ill. Their destination when they return to America is St. Louis. On the same page is Frencz Zahner, also going to St. Louis to see Uncle Mathias Schirado.
Also, a Family Group Sheet that Thomas' grandson has,  shows his mother's first name as Rosalie. With three sources,  I think it's very likely that Thomas and Mathias are brothers.

So far, family tradition and all of the records I've located say that Thomas's children were born in Klek. But I'm still looking.

Couldn't access the Josefdorf info - I suspect it's an operator problem.

If you have time could you go to Banatbooks.com and look at the file for Josefsdorf.  You will see that we have the Thomas Schirado family displayed.
Do you know who the parents of Thomas Schirado were?
Does my list of kids for this family agree with yours?  Is there any evidence that all these kids were born in Klek?  I expect that the last kid, Josef must have been born in North Dakota.  Glen Ullin?
I'll be gone the next 3 weeks so if your answer requires a reply it may take awhile.

Subject: [BANAT-L] Recent posts, St. Louis and Schirado family

Greetings to the List and Mr. Moore,

The information about POWs has been very interesting. Like some other midwestern communities, Sparta, Michigan also had a POW camp. The Germans interred here were also used as farm workers on "The Ridge" an area in western Michigan about 30 miles inland from Lake Michigan where acres of fruit trees are planted. Over the years several articles have been printed in the Grand Rapids Press about the camp. If anyone is interested I will try to get copies.

Both sides of my husband's (Rob's) family immigrated to North Dakota from the Banat in the late 1890s. His father, Leo, spoke only German until he was in his late teens. This was less true for several younger siblings, as they remember speaking German at home and English"out in the world." Leo and several of his brothers also served in the army during WWII. No one in his family has ever mentioned suffering any discrimination for their German ancestry.

BI "Before the Internet" and EI "Early Internet" we spent a great deal of time researching Schirados and Filibecks, relying on much of the work Dave Dreyer did. BR "Before Retirement" work, family, other interests (yep, there are other things besides genealogy), and other ancestors (other branches had information that was found more easily), dragged us away from Banat relatives.

This summer we attended the Schirado Reunion in Glen Ullin, North Dakota and reconnected with Rob's roots. We also visited cousins in St. Louis, Missouri and attended the Federation of Genealogical Societies Seminar in Springfield, Illinois. Several chance meetings or comments set us off on hot new trails. Since then I've finally confirmed two younger siblings to my husband's great grandfather, Thomas, who settled in North Dakota. Mathias Schirado, Jr. immigrated to St. Louis. Gene Sommers has been extremely helpful in adding Magdalena Schirado to the family. There are hints that there are still more siblings to be identified.

So far, this has been a round-a-bout way to say I'm very interested in Mr. Moore's research on the Banat community in St. Louis. From the research I've done there is a definite pattern of nieces, nephews, and friends from the same Banat towns going to visit or stay with relatives in St. Louis.

Mr. Moore mentioned, ". . . I'm working on a book (which will be years in the writing) about John, his family, and his community. If I ever finish it, it will be, in part, a book about how becoming American and becoming modern sometimes entails forgetting." In many ways I've found this to be true of the North Dakota Banaters. Not so much in regards to WWII, but definitely concerning the "old country". None of Rob's uncles or aunts recall the immigrant generation wanting to remember much at all about where they lived or what they did before coming to America.

Hello. Is there anyone with SIRATO/SCHIRATO/SHIRATO's in their
family trees?
I am looking for information about my family. When they emigrated
to the United States they used the Schirato or Shirato spelling. There
were:
Janos(John) Schirato born March 16, 1868 in Nowosel
married Elizabeth Kolla born March 17, 1870 in Molin
children John Schirato born February 3, 1893 in Mullendorf
Anthony Schirato born December 8, 1900 in Muldorf
Elizabeth Schirato born February 14, 1902 in Mullendorf
Peter Shirato born July 21, 1903 in BANAT
Steven Shirato born May 29, 1906
Matthew Shirato born December 4, 1908 in Molin
Janos Schirato was orphaned I believe his parents were Janos Sirato and
Cora Zahoria.
If anything looks familiar please get in touch with me. I am not
familiar with the geography of Hungary and I learned the places of birth
through word of mouth so they may be spelled wrong.
Thank you. Michele Yannuzzi

Gg-grandmother Mitzi Schirado is believed to derive from Rijeka/Fiume in Croatia. - Any info on that SCHRADO name appreciated.

Born 185x. 1883 she lived in Nagy-Toszeg, Torontal, Banat, Austrian-Hungary, now Serbia and was married to my gg-grandfahter Jacob (Jakab?) Hollinger. She gave birth to my g-grandfather, Matthias Max Hollinger and 2 boys and a girl. Buried in a catholic cementary in Lugoj/Lugosch, Timisoara, Romania.
Any info on that HOLLINGER name appreciated.
Is spelling correct? Schirato?Schirado??

Diane;
Klek and Lazarfeld were two adjacent but different villages and it is likely
that there were repeated marriages back and forth. In the early days Klek,
up to 1851 was a filial of Lazarfeld. Klek was raised to a parish in 1851
so starting at this date the KBs are kept separately. There was a gal on
the list some years back who was decended from the Bundys in Missoula. She
seemed to know a fair amount about her family. There were a number of
families from Klek living in Missoula. As I recall one of these was called
Neuhaus. There was some but limited exchange between the group in Missoula
and the Banater colony in North Dakota and Glendive Montana. You will find
an abstract of the passenger ship record for Marianna who is going to Great
Falls and is from Klek at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~banatdata/DDB/HomePage.htm

I have no further data on the other kids. Schirado(Schirato) from Klek is a
well known Banater surname in North Dakota and there was a Bernie Schirado
who was from the Glen Ullin/Klek and was very active on the list in the
early days..
Johann Bundy is from Heufeld but the Heufeld family book by Kuhn does not go
far enough to overlap with any of the above data so one is faced with a gap
in the data. As with most Heimat books, in the Klek Heimat book by Lorenz
Lang there is an extensive list with details of the inhabitents of Klek in
1944 as well as a nice Orts map which ties in all the above data and perhaps
this is where Repp got some of his data.
I found a couple of the old Bundy messages in my inbox. They are among the
older residues dating from 2004 I will past two of these messages below to
this message. You will have to puzzle your way throught them yourself.

Subject: Great Falls Banaters

Hi Dave,

I successfully subscribed to the Banat mailing lists. Thanks.

I have not researched D Elemir. But maybe Clara has because she does
different families...like Schwartz. She and Tony will be here for a couple
of days next week and I'll check.

There was some contact between Great Falls and N.D. David's Aunt Grace
Schmidt ( *Klek 13 Jan 1908) corresponded with Ammei Bundy Neuhaus'
granddaughter in New England, N.D. Ammei die in childbirth in 1910 in N.
England. But Grace and the granddaughter wrote each other frequently until
Grace died in 1974. Clara's family was aware of the Bundys but there was
little contact.

Both David's father Matt and grandfather Peter worked for the Great
Northern RR. Matt Bundy worked for the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. He fell
off of a scaffold, age 45, in 1922 leaving a widow and five young children.
One Bundy girl was a maid in a boarding house. At that time, GF was v. much
a single men's town with many immigrants from Croatia, Italy etc. working at
the smelter or on the RR.
She eventually m. a Canadian and farmed north of GF.
One Bundy died in WWII in the Marshall Islands. And one Bundy grandson, a
West Point grad died in Vietnam.

The next generation had a variety of positions..a Mgr. of produce at
Safeway, owner of a camera and photo shop and Joe Schmidt was the County Tax
Assessor. David's generation are mostly college graduates. David at Montana
State U. and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. David worked for GE Medical
for twenty five years and then for GEC of England manufacturing x-rays, MRI
and Cat scans in Europe. It is a strange coincidence that Bundy and
Schmidts in Vienna of his generation were engineers in Siemans and Philips
Medical.

This is a long reply, but I have much, much information and pictures, not
just dates, and I guess I will gather it together for a Schmidt/Bundy
book..which several family members are bugging me to do.

Thanks again, Harriet

Subject: Lararfeld book

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your swift and thorough reply.

Please put me down for both the Lazarfeld and Heufeld/Mastort books. And I
have E-mailed Clara Fischer with the information.

I looked into my correspondence from several years ago and found that both
Joseph Kuehn and Phillip Lung helped me personally with Bundy/Schmidt
research and reasoning. I have Lungs D/E book.

How does one get on the Banat list?

Have you been to Klek? I have a few 1944 and many August 1989 photos of
Klek. When David and I were there in 1989 we were well received by the
Serbs who live in his grandparents houses.

David was actually born in Great Falls. His grandparents were Peter Schmidt
and Eva Bundy from Klek. Eva's parents were Hans Bundy and Katarina (Ketl)
Steyer. Peter's were Josef Schmidt and Magdelena Popley. The Schmidt name
from that family has pretty much died out, but there are many Bundys, in
Montana, Munich and Vienna. Several Bundy girls came to Montana and North
Dakota. And Eva Bundy's brother Matt married Peter Schmidt's sister Barbara
and also came to Great Falls.

I am sort of the Schmidt/Bundy Family historian and researcher and
correspond with them all. (And I'm not even German or a Schmidt by birth!)
