On 22 Mar 1842 when Charity A. was 18, she married Norman H. Herrick in New York. Born in Apr 1819 in Cayuga County, New York. Norman H. died in Eaton County Poor House on 4 Feb 1893. Aged 79. Buried in Bosworth Cemetery, Walton Township. Occupation: Farmer.

Norman and Charity moved from New York to Ohio about 1844, then to Michigan sometime between 1851 and 1860.

Norman’s birth year is a bit changable.

US Army. There was a Norman Herrick who enlisted in the army in 1837 at the age of 21. His eyes were grey, his hair light and and his complexion fair. He was 5’7” tall. He was born in Cayuga County, New York and, before enlisting, had been a farmer. He joined the army on November 13, 1837 in Chicago under Capt. Jamison in company D, 5th Infantry. He was discharged November 13, 1840 at Ft. Winnebago as a private. There is also a note “P.O. 5/53” under the column labeled discharge. It’s not certain just what that means.

Rua Ball died 25 July 1908 of organic heart disease. She was a widow, 81 years, five months and 8 days old at death, was born on 16 February 1827 in York State, was first married when she was 22 and had had five children, one of whom had died. Her parents were Obediah Cornell and Pauline Amie, and both were born in York State. Rua did general housekeeping. Mrs. C.A. Spicer of Mt. Pleasant was the informant. Dr. C.J. Abbott of Winn was the attending physician. Rua was buried in Union Cemetery, in Blanchard, Michigan.

Obituary Finder notes that there is an obituary for Mrs. Ball, who died on 7/25/1908, in the Isabella County Enterprise, August 7, 1908; page 2, column 1.
On 18 Dec 1848 when Rua May was 21, she first married Daniel C. Raymond, son of David Warren Raymond (1796-1876) & Eliza Simmons Bebee, in Lorain County, Ohio. Born on 4 Jul 1827 in New York. Daniel C. died in Eaton County, Michigan, on 26 Feb 1861; he was 33. Buried in Vermontville Pioneer Cemetery.

PITTSFIELD. August 8th, 1892. Died on the 6th instant, at her home in the east part of town, after an illness of only twelve hours duration, of apoplexy, Mrs. George Cornell, aged fifty years. Funeral services at their home Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Corfman. Interment in East cemetery. She leaves a husband and three children besides many friends to morn her loss.

Thomas Cornell died 21 June 1898 in Walton Township of progressive muscular palsey. He was 66 years, four months and 19 days old at death and was born in Saratoga County, New York. He was first married at age 20 and was the parent of 11 children, seven of whom still lived. His father was Obidiah Cornell and his mother Perlina Ammy or Animy or Animg or Anuny or something close to one of these options. Thomas was a farmer. He was buried in Walton Cemetery on 23 June 1898. Hannah Cornell of Charlotte was the informant.

His parents are August Woydt and Wilhelmina Steinke and hers are Obediah Cornell and Lucy A. Cornell. Stephen B. Crawford of Chicago and Mary A. Goldsboro of Charlotte were the witnesses. J. Snashall, Minister of the Gospel officiated.

On 17 Sep 1855 when Lucy was 18, she first married Amasa Henry Thorp in Lorain County, Ohio. Born on 29 Feb 1836 in Ohio. Amasa Henry died in Sep 1905. They were divorced.

Thorpe, age 59, a farmer who has $6500 in real estate and $965 in personal property. He was born in Massachusetts. Listed between Abel and Amasa is Moses A. Thorpe, age 22, who is also a farm laborer. It is likely that Amasa and Moses are Abel’s sons.
