    KELLER, CRYSTAL Of Sparta Crystal Vivian (Race) Keller, age 97, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 after a short illness. Preceding her in death are her parents, Erwin & Donna Race and her son Darryl. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, George; son, Phillip (Nancy) Keller; daughter in-law, Dallene Keller; brother, Erwin (Patricia) Race Jr.; grandchildren, Ranae (Dan) Scarberry, Tiffany Keller, LeAnn (Matt) Meyers, Lindsay (Mika) Hulliberger; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral Services will be held at Sparta United Methodist Church, 54 E. Division, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Lou Grettenberger officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may meet the family at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 and one hour prior to the service at the church. KELLER (Sparta) George Erwin Keller, age 98, passed away on Friday, August 08, 2014 after a short illness. George served his country during WWII as a sergeant in the 3rd Army. In 1945, he was stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany, where he worked in the office of General George Patton. He was proud to have known the general personally, and spoke of him often. He was a Life Member of the Sparta American Legion Post # 107. George and his wife, Crystal received Bachelor of Education degrees from Western Michigan University, and each taught for over thirty years in the Sparta Public Schools. George retired as Principal of White Elementary School. He was preceded in death by his wife Crystal Vivian (Race), and son, Darryl. He is survived by his son, Philip and Nancy Keller; sister-in-law, Patricia Race; daughter-in-law, Dallene Keller, Carol Keller; grandchildren, Renae and Dan Scarberry, Tiffany Keller, LeAnn and Matt Meyers; Lindsay and Mika Hulliberger; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 11:00 A.M. at the Sparta United Methodist Church with Rev. Lou Grettenberger officiating. Friends may meet the family at the funeral home on Tuesday evening 7 to 9 P.M. and on Wednesday morning at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of the Michigan Veterans Homes, Spectrum Health Hospice, or Sparta United Methodist Church.

    Erwin N. Race Jr. age 88 of Baldwin, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Fremont. Erwin was born on November 2, 1923 in Ludington, Michigan to Erwin N. and Donna June (Harden) Race Sr. and later married Patsy Riffe on June 19, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri. Erwin has been a resident of the Baldwin area for the past 19 years when he moved from Comstock Park. Erwin had been a welder and mechanic in the construction industry for many years and retired from the DWD Construction Company in Grand Rapids. He had also served in the United States Navy during World War II. Erwin enjoyed fishing, vegetable and fruit farming, bird watching and his dog.
    Erwin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patsy of Baldwin; his children, Lynn Marie (Francis) Stankus of Fremont; Scott Lee (Patricia) Race of Grand Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Crystal Keller; Hope Alice Joyce and Marion Crowley.
    A memorial luncheon to celebrate Erwin’s will be held at a later time following cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Audubon Society for memorial contributions in memory of Erwin.
Erwin Norton married P. R. Riffe (Private) (69586) , daughter of George Lee Riffe (68551) (4 Jul 1902-11 May 1968) & Elsie E. Drinkwater (68405) (18 Feb 1902-Jan 1970).
