Arthur Race Taken by Death

Arthur Race, 86, of 97 Barton St. passed away Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Teegardin. He was born May 1, 1880 in Croton and had lived his entire life in Newaygo County. He had farmed in Oak Grove and Brooks Township. He attended Fry Chapel in Egypt Township.
    His wife Alba preceded him in death March 23, 1958. Besides his daughter he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Edith Scott of Newaygo, a brother, Erwin of Sparta; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
    Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Pieschel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Sickler officiating. Interment was in Newaygo Cemetery.

Arthur Race lived his entire life in Newaygo County. He farmed in Oak Grove and Brooks Townships. Services were held at the Pieschel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Sickler officiating. Rites Held on Wednesday for Mrs. Alba Race
    Mrs. Alba Race, 78, longtime Newaygo resident, died Sunday at her home in Brooks township.
    She was born January 16, 1880, at Dutton and was married November 25, 1902 to Arthur Race and the couple had made their home here since then. Mrs. Race was a member of the First Baptist church.
    She leaves her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Teegardin of Newaygo; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lura Getzman of Dutton, Mrs. Lloyd Overholt of Stoubaugh, Alabama, Mrs Florence Ring of Riverside, California; and, two brothers, George Gillette of Hastings and Ralph of Needles, California.
    Funeral services were held at 2'clock Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. Elvin K Mattison officiating. Burial was in Newaygo Cemetary.

Edith M. Scott, 94, Brooks St. Newaygo, died Thursday, Sept, 8, 1977 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility. She was born in Grand Rapids, May 5, 1883. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newaygo. She was married Sept. 14, 1930, in Howard City. Her husband, George, died May 25, 1952. Survived by one brother, Erwin Race of Sparta, four neices and one nephew. Services were held Saturday, Sept. 10 at two p.m. from the Clarence Pieschel Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Vermilya officiated. Obituary, May 29, Newaygo Republican.
    Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Methodist church for George Alfred Scott, aged 77, who passed away Sunday morning at his home, following a heart attack.
    Mr. Scott was born August 11, 1874, at Coral, and moved to a farm south of Bill's Lake, in 1931. For the past seven years has lived on a farm a mile east of Newaygo. His only survivor is his wife, the former Edith Race. Interment was in the Newaygo cemetary. The Rev. Charles Martin officiated.

Race (Sparta) --- Erwin N. Race Sr., aged 95, formerly of Sparta and Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday at Kent Community Hospital. He is survivied by his family, George and Crystal Keller, Robert and Hope Joyce, Marion Crowley all of Sparta, Erwin Jr. and Patsy Race of Comstock Park: 10 grand children and 14 great grand children. Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 AM at the funeral home, with Rev. Ronald Entenman officiating.
