    Samuel was taken captive by the Indians, but escape, and returned May 12. He built, at the time of his marriage, where is now [1887] the South Framingham Hotel.

    On 4 Jun 1702 David’s father gave him 130 acres “New Grant land” in Sudbury where he built the famous tavern known as the “Red Horse Tavern” and by last popular designation the “Wayside Inn”.

The Wayside Inn was made famous by Longfellow.

    Jonathan Lamb owned the old Trowbridge farms and the Joseph parker farm; selectman 1716, 3 years; lieut.; removed in 1726 to that part of Leicester which became Spencer. Inventory, £664.

    Samuel’s father game him 50 acres, being the southwest part of his farm (the Susa. Hemenway place), where he build a house; sold to John Potter of Leicester; 30 Mar 1722 his father-in-law, John Death, gave him a deed of all his estate (the Joseph Phipps farm), on condition that he support said John Death and wife during life, and pay off the heirs. The land rand northerly to near Learned’s pond, and was bounded east on the Gleasons, and west on the Samuel Eames land.
