    Betsey (Cutler) Butters died May 1, 1830, age 61, and upon her death a partition was made of the estate, and of her dower right the six children by her first husband and the four by her second marriage had an equal share.
On 22 Nov 1787 Betsey first married Lieut. Jesse Butters (51304) , son of Reuben Butters (34149) (17 Nov 1729-Oct 1794) & Rachel Thompson (43365) (18 Jun 1725-bef Sep 1789), in Wilmington or Woburn, Massachusetts.399,124 Born on 21 Nov 1761 in Wilmington, MA.399 Jesse died in Nov 1796.

Jesse, born in Wilmington, son of Reuben and Rachel (Thompson) Butters, was one of the young soldiers of the Revolution, and described upon the muster rolls: Stature, 5 feet 10 inches, complexion light; enlisting July 2, 1778, in Capt. Nath, Cowdry's company, for guard duty on Winter Hill, under command of Col. Jacob Gerrish; also, Jan, 26, 1779, in Capt. Nathaniel Heath’s company, to do duty as guards about Boston, under the Hon. Major Gen, Gates; again, Oct. 22, 1779, in Capt. Joshua Walker’s company of militia, in Col. Samuel Denny’s regiment, and marched to Claverock, and July 10, 1780, on pay roll for nine men raised in ye town of Wilmington, and employed in ye Continental service ye term of six months, assigned to the Fifteenth Division, commanded by Capt. Hancock; discharged Dec. 16, 1780.
    He inherited from his father Reuben the homestead and 110 acres, “on the east side o( the road that leads from John Bell’s, and so on northward, including the dwelling-house, being the Garrison House of his grandfather Samuel.”
On 13 Dec 1798 Betsey second married James Butters (51334) , son of James Butters (34158) (22 Feb 1746-21 Mar 1838) & Abigail Butterfield, in Wilmington, MA.399 Born on 1 Jan 1777 in Wilmington, MA.399 James died in Wilmington, MA, on 8 Nov 1831; he was 54.399

    When a young man James went to Cambridge, where he obtained employment in market gardening. Upon the death of Lieut. Jesse Butters, Jesse’s widow, Betsey (Cutler) Butters, engaged James to take charge of her farm. He married the widow Betsey (Cutler) Butters Dec. 13, 1798. The marriage brought James into possession of the old homestead of Samuel Butters, which had been handed to each succeeding generation, and now passes out of the ownership of the old family line.
    James Butters died Nov. 8, 1831, intestate. Real and personal property valued at $2,462.38.
