    Penn Yan — Herbert Barrett Race, 70: Native of Potter, Yates County, died in Dunkirk Hospital Thursday, (Jan. 15, 1942). He had made his home in Fredonia for the past 40 years. He was born in Potter, a son of Milton and Mary Barrett Race. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Durham, Branchport; Mrs. B.F. Heir, Forestville; Mrs. Melton Rapalee, Penn Yan; a half-birther, Glen Race, Branchport. Funeral services were held yesterday in his home in Fredonia. Burial in Fredonia.

Former Sheriff, Milton Rapalee, Succumbs at 79
    Penn Yen, June 11—Milton L. Rapalee, 79, ex-sheriff of Yates County died at his home, 251 Lake St., yesterday about 10 p. m. He had suffered a heart ailment for some time.
    Mr. Rapalee was born in the town of Barrington, son of George and Divern Pulver Rapalee. He had spent his life in Yates county and had served in several public offices. He was county sheriff for two terms, county commissioner of, public welfare for four years, road superintendent of the town of Barrington. He was serving as a deputy on the county sheriff's staff when he was stricken ill. At intervals in his life he had been a salesman for various firms.
    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Read Rapalee, a son, Allen Rapalee, Penn Yan; two daughters, Miss Louise D. Rapalee of Rome and Mrs. George Barnett of Elizabeth town; a stepson, Leslie E. Read of Huntington, L.I. and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
