On 20 Oct 1697 when Margaret was 20, she married Dea. Joseph Stockbridge (17805) , son of Charles Stockbridge (6470) (ca 1633/4-28 Dec 1683) & Abigail (ca 1636/38-Mar 1709/10), in Scituate, MA.52 Born on 28 Jun 1672 in Scituate, MA.52 Joseph died in Hanover, MA, on 11 Mar 1773; he was 100.485 “Deacon Joseph Stockbridge Departed this Life the 11th day of march 1773. Being one Hundred years Eight months & Two days old”.

Joseph and Margaret removed to Duxbury, now Pembroke, where his lands were situated. He lived to more than 100 years of age.53

The Hanover records remark on his decease “Being one Hundred years Eight months & Two days old.”485

Joseph and Margaret removed to Hanover, and settled first near Barstow’s bridge on the site of the E. Q. Sylvester house. Somewhat later they removed to the Pembroke side of Indian Head River beyond Luddam’s Ford, where Haviland Torrey later resided.42

The First Congregational Church of Hanover was formally organized on 5 Dec 1728 with Benjamin Bass as minister elect. Rev. Bass served for 28 years (1728-1756). Joseph Stockbridge and Elijah Cushing were the first deacons. There ten members including Joseph Stockbridge, Isaac Buck, Elijah Cushing, Joseph Stockbridge Jr., Hames Hatch, Thomas Josselyn, John Taylor, Amasa Turner, Samuel Staples, and Samuel Skiff.

    Joseph Stockbridge lived first in Hanover, and then in Pembroke where Capt. Haviland Torroy now [1853] resides. He was Deacon of the Church in Hanover for many years, and a man of activity, intelligence and usefulness. Whilst in Hanover, he was Selectman, from 1731-35.

On 1 Dec 1698 when Bathsheba was 18, she married Dea. Hatherly Foster (13915) , son of Sergt. Timothy Foster (4787) (ca 1638-16 Dec 1688) & Ruth Tileston (1641-5 Dec 1677), in Scituate, MA.110 “Hatherly ffoster & Bathshua his wife were Married the 1st of December, 1698”. Born on 22 Sep 1671 in Dorchester, MA.25 Hatherly died in Scituate, MA, on 11 Jul 1751; he was 79.52 Buried in Second Church Cemetery, Norwell.

Hatherly was named after his Hatherly ancestors. His great grandmother Eglin’s maiden name was Hatherly, and her brother Timothy Hatherly was a leading citizen of Scituate.

From Deane’s History of Scituate:
    Dea. Hatherly Foster was in Scituate 1698, when he married Bathshua, the daugghter of Joseph Turner, and settled on the farm at North river. The house in which his great grandson Timothy now [1831] resides, was built 1697, and is now in good repair.53

The Deacon Hatherly Foster property adjoined that of Joseph Turner on the east.42
