    Matthew resided in the ancestral homestead, Main St., below Pear Tree Hill. He was known as ‘Lieutenant,’ and later as ‘Captain.’ Constable 1693, and selectman in 1710.
    In his will of 4 March, 1713, proved 21 July, 1715, gives “to oldest son Solomon all my estate both real and personal except that which is named hereafter; to son Samuel land at Cohasset,”etc.; “to son Job a sum to pursue his college studies, and £300 in addition; to daughter Jael £300, she to be well educated.”

From Deane’s History of Scituate:53
    David came to Scituate 1688, when he purchased the lands of George Russell, (his uncle), on the southeast of Stockbridge's mill, the ancient Stedman place. His house stood near where stands the house of Mr Samuel Hatch, his descendant. That Russell house was burnt 1712, and another erected near the same place, which has been succeeded since by the spacious mansion of Mr Hatch. Dea. David Jacob was an active and useful man, always employed in publick business, and often also as town schoolmaster, there being but one school at that time.

David ws the first master of the only public school in Scituate until 1712. In 1701 ‘The Town agreed with Dea. David Jocob to keep a reading, writin and grammar school for one year, in consideration of the sum of £20; also agreed with the same person to build a school house for £20.’ This schoolhouse stood between Jacob’s house and the Stockbridge mill.42

David Jacob was a Deacon of the First Church during the time of the controversy over building a new meeting house elsewhere thanupon the site of the earliest one on Meeting House Lane. The second house on ‘the gor of land’ near Balch’s (now (1936) the Town Common at Scituate Centre) was erected before his death.42

    David settled in Scituate about 1688 when he purchased the lands of his uncle, George Russell, on the south-east of Stockbridge’s mill, anciently the Stedman place, and his house stood where stands [in 1853] that of the late Samuell Hatch. He is called a “weaver” on the Prob. Rec. Suff., and was an active man in the town, of good education, Deacon of the church, and always employed in public affairs, and as a school-master.
On 20 Dec 1689 when David was 25, he first married Sarah Cushing (16816) , daughter of Col. John Cushing Esq. (15317) (ca 1627-31 Mar 1708) & Sarah Hawke (6190) (ca 1641-9 Mar 1678/9), in Scituate, MA.52 Born on 26 Aug 1671 in Scituate, MA.52 Sarah was baptized on 27 Aug 1671.2 Sarah died in Scituate, MA, on 24 Sep 1723; she was 52. Buried in First Parish Cemetery, Scituate Harbor.

John Cushing, Sarah’s father, also recorded the marriage in his account book: “David & Sarah maried 20 december 1689”.7

According to Cushing2, Sarah died 8 Aug 1701.

On 6 Jun 1687 when Elizabeth was 21, she married Lieut. Elisha Turner (8746) , son of John Turner Sr. (3020) (ca 1621-aft 20 May 1697) & Mary Brewster (4066) (16 Apr 1627-aft 23 Mar 1698), in Scituate, MA.52 Born 8 Mar 1656/7 in Scituate, MA.52,62 Elisha was baptized on 12 Apr 1657.142 Elisha died in Scituate, MA on 24 Apr 1700.

In Mar 1687/8 Elisha was fined 1 shilling and costs for marrying without having his intentions published according to law. He pleaded ignorance of the law.

    Matthew inherited a large portion of the estate of his uncle Matthew with whom he was brought up, and succeeded to his occupation of “wheelwright.”   He d. 18 May, 1715, æt. 50 yrs.   Selectman in 1703, 1704, 1708, 1713, and 1714.   The inv. of his est. was appraised at £2535, 5s. 2d., and including dwellilng-house and mills, and one hundred and fifty acres of land at home.   Also land at Hull, and at Abington; one hundred and eighty acres at “Mast Hill”; six oxen, five cows, ten young cattle, five yearlings, thirty sheep, seven swine, best horse, a mare and colt, a negro woman named Jibbo, etc.; wife Deborah, executrix. He resided at Hingham Center.

From the Loring Genealogy, page 35:107
   
Benjamin was a deacon of the church at Hull, a man of good repute. Was town officer in several lines, clerk, treasurer, selectman, moderator of town meetings. Was on the Grand Jury in 1723. Was sent by the town as a committee on several errands of importance, to individuals and bodies.
    At one of the meetings over which he presided, Nov. 2, 1730, the tovm voted there should be bought for the town's use a whale boat, also a pall to lay over corpses.
   
Benjamin died in his 61st year.165
17726. Capt. John Jacob. Born on 31 Jul 1679 in Hingham, MA.45 John died aft 1749.

John and Sarah resided in the second precinct, Hingham. He was constable 1709, selectman 1742, 1743, and 1745, representative 1726-1733, and deacon of the church. In addition to his public duties, he carried on a farm of about 200 acres, which included 130 of pasturage, 50 of mowing, etx. In 1749 he kept 10 cows, 6 oxen, 2 hourses, 38 sheep; and harvested 176 bushels of corn. At that time he paid a larger tax than any other resident of the town. He left no issue.45
