Elijah and Elizabeth in 1728 settled in that part of Hanover since annexed to Pembroke, where he built a large substantial house, which was held by his descendants of the fourth generation. He is called ‘Lieut.’ and ‘Capt.’ on the Records of Hanover. He was a deacon of the first Congreational Church in 1729; and for many years a justice of the peace; first representative of the Town in 1737; and selectman from 1728 to 1739. Justice of the Court of Common Pleas (Plymouth Co.) 1757 to 1762. ‘He was one to whom much of the public business of the Town was confided, and he executed his trust with fidelity and success.’ He was probably the Lieut.-Col.
