He was an extensive land holder, and surveyor; Selectman from 1776- 78; a member of the Committee of Safety in the Revolution; Representative in 1780, 81, and 86.

John Foster was a soldier in the French War, and was at Crown Point in 1759. Returning from the French War he became a tavern keeper in the old Deacon Hatherley Foster house, where his father lived. This house was a busy center during the days of the Revolution, and many important meetings were held at ‘Landlord’ Foster’s. The old Foster house, built in 1697, was occupied by five generations of Fosters, and was demolished in 1898, then in a ruinous condition. One of the original windows of this house is [1836] preserved in the Kent Memorial house in Norwell Village.42

Amasa was constable in 1776, resided on Main Street, South Hingham, near Queen Ann’s Corner.45

On 6 Jan 1780 when Nathaniel was 29, he first married Lucy Jacob (52156) , daughter of Joshua Jacob (35276) (31 Mar 1702-9 Feb 1784) & Mary James (35299) (5 Oct 1704-22 Jul 1803), in Scituate, MA.52 Born on 3 Nov 1748 in Scituate, MA.52 Lucy died in Hanover, MA, on 20 Mar 1812; she was 63.174

Nathaniel and Lucy were first cousins; their fathers were brothers.

On 1 Mar 1814 when Nathaniel was 63, he second married Charlotte Otis (57783) , daughter of Stephen Otis (45738) (4 Nov 1728-18 Feb 1773) & Elizabeth Wade (45778) (ca 1737-31 Oct 1810), in First Parish Church of Scituate.52 Born in 1763.168 Charlotte died in Hanover, MA on 1 Mar 1852.174

Charlotte first married Snell Wade, second Nathaniel Jacob as his second wife.

Caleb was baptized in First Congegational Church of Hanover, on 5 May 1754.446 Caleb died on 4 Apr 1844.
