HEART CONCEALS GIFTS AT SHOWER
    Hidden behind a large red heart in one corner of Mrs. Carl t. Brown’s living room Monday evening at her home, 3311 Ellen avenue, were heaps of miscellaneous shower gifts for the guest of honor, Mrs. Leo Schirado, bride of February 14.
    A large red cellophane heart decorated the dining room table, and smaller ones served as placards for dessert. Honors at cards were son by Mrs. O.C. Purdy and Miss Phoebe Sours.

SHOWER IS GIVEN FOR RECENT BRIDE
    Mrs. Leo Schirado, who was Miss Helen Herrick before her marriage February 14, was guest of honor Tuesday evening at a crystal shower given by Mrs. Lawrence Murphy of 1006 1/2 Braman street.
    Prizes for games went to Miss Agnes Leverett, Mrs. Doyt Bowers, Miss Margaret Tucker, and Mrs. Schirado. There there were Mrs. Frederick Selby, jr., Mrs. Leo Panasiewicz, Mrs. Walter Sideman, and Mrs. Carl Brown.

    Helen Roberta Schirado Lansing Helen Roberta (Herrick) Schirado was born October 3, 1913 in Olivet, Michigan to Francis and Harriet (Van Geison) Herrick. She passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010 at her home in Lansing.
    She attended Olivet College and married Leo A. Schirado February 14, 1942 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Lansing. Helen was a devoted mother and wife. During her lifetime she volunteered with the Red Cross, at her children's schools and at Church of the Resurrection. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and being with her family. After retirement, she and her husband were "happy snowbirds" spending winters in Tucson, Arizona.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers George, Merle (Short) and Leo (Bill) Herrick. She is lovingly remembered by her sons: Robert L. (Bobbi) Schirado of Sparta; Dr. William C. Schirado of Kalamazoo; and, Craig P. Schirado of Lansing: grandsons; Mathew S. Schirado of Rockford; Micah R. Schirado of Houston, TX; and Ian M. Schirado of Kalamazoo: brother-in-law Nick (Vivien) Schirado of Bismarck, ND: sisters-in law: Rose Kastner of Grand Ledge, MI; Eva Schirado of Richland, WA; Joyce (Joe) Velasquez of Lansing, MI; Eleanor Wehri of Glen Ullin, ND; and Eunice Schirado of Glen Ullin, ND: Special nieces: Sharon Beers of Grand Ledge, MI; and Jane (Tom Hart) of Grand Ledge, MI: Many other nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and her spiritual families at Church of the Resurrection and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
    Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 6, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. George Daisy as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
    The family will receive relatives and friends, Monday, April 5, 2010, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel where a Vigil Service will be prayed at 7:00PM. Leo lived with the Charles Bumann family as a lodger. He was 28, born in North Dakota, and had an eighth grade education. In 1935, he lived in Oliver County, North Dakota. He worked 40 hours a week as an inside truck driver in a foundry.
Charles Bumann worked 60 hours a week as a farmer and finished the tenth grade. His wife Helen, was 33 and had graduated from high school. There children were Gene aged eight, and Milton aged three.

HERRICK-SCHIRADO VOWS EXCHANGED
    The wedding of Miss Helen R. Herrick, daughter of Mrs. Hattie Herrick, Olivet, and Leo Schirado, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Schirado, Blue Grass, N.D., took place saturday evening at St. Casimir’s rectory with Rev. Fr. Leo Szybowicz reading the service. Mrs. Carl T. Brown attended the bride and Carl Schirado was groomsman.
    Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s brother, Leo J. Herrick and Mrs. Herrick, 513 Park Lane, East Lanlistsing.
    The bride’s gown was a costume suit of powder blue sheer crepe with navy blue accessories. She wore a should corsage of camellias and gardenias. the bridesmaid’s costume suit was a dusty rose crepe with dark brown accessories and shoulder corsage of gardenias and Johanna Hill roses.
    At the reception Mrs. Herrick received her guests wearing a gown of black crepe with corsage of carnations and rosebuds. Mrs. Herrick, mother of the bride, wore soldier blue with a corsage of daffodils, gift of the hostess. A three tiered wedding cake center the bride’s table. Bouquets of snapdragons and acacia, were banked with tall crystal candelabra containing white tapers.
    Great bouquets of gladioli were over the fireplace and on the dining room buffet with other flowers and tapers appropriately mingled.
    Miss Agnes Leverett presided at the tea table and Mrs. Lawrence Murphy, Miss Jane Herrick and Mrs. Bert Smith assisted in the dining room. The 65 guests included Mr. and Mrs. George Herrick, Warren, O.; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Herrick, Flint; and others from Olivet, Detroit and Fowlerville. the bride is a former student at Olivet college and graduate of Lansing Business university. Mr. and Mrs. Schirado will make their home at 1716 1/2 Delavan avenue.

Ingham Draft Boards Send 200 for Induction Tests
    Ingham country’s four draft boards Tuesday released names of some 200 selectees recently delivered to Kalamazoo for final physical examination leading up to induction in the armed forces.
        Information furnished by two the boards showed 31 married men included in their combined quotas. The other boards, however, did not list the number of married men scheduled for induction at this time.
        Under new selective service rules men accepted after their final examinations go immediately uno the army.
        Board Number 4, listed Leo Anton Schirado, 1716 1/2 Delevan street as one of the 200 draftees.
