From Deane’s History of Scituate:53
Stephen settled on the west of White-oak plain 1690. ... Amongst the most distinguished of Samuel Clap’s family, we may name Dea. Stephen, whose house above mentioned at White-oak plain is now [1831] standing: It was erected before 1686, and in that year is called, in a survey of the road, ‘Samuel Clap’s new house.’ Dea. Stephen occupied it 1690. It is now owned by the fifth generation from Dea. Stephen.

Steven “was a Deacon of the church, and Lieutenant of the military. His house, which was built previously to 1687, was standing in 1842. In a survey of the road in 1686, it is called ‘Samuel Clap’s new house.’ It was built on White-Oak plain, and in 1831 was owned by the fifth generation from Deacon Stephen. He was one of the committee for building the meeting-house in 1706. He was aslo a Representative to the General Court in 1720.”310
