26754. Dr. Isaac Otis. Born in 1699 in Scituate, MA.168 Isaac died in Scituate, MA on 11 Nov 1777.52 Buried in South Parish Cemetery, Norwell.

Isaac was born in the Ensign house in Scituate.42

Dr. Isaac, the first regular bred physician who settled in Scituate, and to whom the Town 'Voted a settlement of £100 to encourage him to remain in the Town,' in 1719. “He is remembered by some of our aged people as a gentleman of uncommon accomplishments of person and of mind.”53

He purchased first a property on what is now called Old Oaken Bucket Road, near Greenbush Village, known as the ‘widow Nichols property,’ near George Moore’s bridge. He lived there until 1723, when he bought of Joseph Nash the house near Stony Cove Brook, built by him in 1700. There was an exchange of properties at this time, Joseph Nash taking title to the larger estate, and Dr. Otis, the smaller, which was more desirable situated for a doctor, being located on the main highway leading to the ‘up river settlement.’42

Isaac died age 78.52
On 25 May 1719 Isaac married Deborah Jacob (35274) , daughter of Dea. David Jacob (17719) (20 Jun 1664-10 Feb 1748) & Sarah Cushing (16816) (26 Aug 1671-24 Sep 1723), in Scituate, MA.110 Born on 22 Apr 1698 in Scituate, MA.52 Deborah died in Scituate, MA, on 17 Mar 1783; she was 84.52 Buried in South Parish Cemetery, Norwell.

    Job lived first in Hanover, near Circuit St., in the Drinkwater section, where he was a member of the church in 1728/29. He inherited the farm on which his father resided, described as ‘on both sides of the road being about 60 acres with the buildings & my three acres at Buck’s field & my seven acres of salt marsh on the east & west side of Damon’s creek next the beach, also my 30 acres of woodland cedar swamp near the mill brook also about 60 acres of uplande meadow which I bought of William Ticknor and others joyning to Scituate harbour also about one hundred acres of land which I bought of Thomas Clark and others with the buildings on both sides of the way at a Place called the Clay pits.’ The will of Job Otis of Scituate, yeoman, dated 12 Dec. 1781, names wife Prince; dau. Eunice; sons Job, David, Prince and Abijah; daus. Mercy Curtis, Thankful Otis, Betty Sutton and Deborah Vinal.

The births of Job’s children by his second wife do not seem to be recorded anywhere.

    Joseph was representative from Boston, and keeper of the jail; also mariner, and sheriff of Suffolk Co. After his death, his widow married Rev. John Hancock, the father of the governor.
    Joseph and his descendants occupied for many years the old house, built about 1700, known as ‘The Old Two-Stacks’. This house, however, was not built by Joseph, but by his wife’s family, the Littles.
On 2 Feb 1740 Joseph married Mercy Little (25967) , daughter of Capt. David Little Esq (23800) (18 Mar 1680/1-9 Feb 1779) & Elizabeth Southworth (10209) (29 Sep 1686-10 Apr 1743), in First Parish Church of Scituate.110,52 Born on 8 May 1724.

Two years before Mercy Little married Joseph Otis of Scituate, her older sister Elizabeth Little had married Joseph Otis of New London. The two Joseph Otises were first cousins.
